Meanwhile Down on the Farm.......

Now that I have finally got my sorry butt in gear and downloaded the pics, and before another Saturday rolls around……….

Last Saturday, my friend Merritt, Kathy (from the twisted sisters spin guild) and I spent the day at Tollgate Gardens, a farm in Novi as part of the entertainment for the Novi Heritage Festival.
we were right in front of the children's garden
how cool is that?

There was bee keepers with honey for sale, a wood carver, some young farm animals (calf, goats, chickens),  two musical groups and other stuff.  And if that was not enough, there was a popcorn popping machine, folks grilling hot dogs and hay rides.  And everything was FREE. Yup, free hot dogs free popcorn free hay rides.  Oh oh almost forgot, if I may quote Merritt,  “ and we were able to watch fleece-on-the-hoof  herding demonstrations by border collies on and off all day. Fascinating! “
And, this is most important, the farm manager gave us a big bag of yucky dirty yucky fleece as a nice bonus.  The yucky dirty fleece was carted off by the spinners, me, not so much into having to wash, card etc., but I do understand the need.

Merritt and Kathy took care of demo-ing spinning, me the weaving.
Kathy had some of the kids help drop spindling.
Merritt had example of fleece from different animals, bison, sheep, llama, alpaca, bunny, etc.
I had the kids help with weaving.
see, you can see the loom right there
pretend you can see kids weaving.......
ya, we were busy and did not get a pic of kids weaving
Parents were concerned that OMG, be careful of the loom, but short throwing to the ground how could one damage a loom.
this is only a small section of the farm
it is 160 acres

And then after a day that flew by so fast, I came home and un-wove. Not really because the kid weave was so so wonky which it was but really because the color patterning looked like hell, not pleased at all.
And that was my weekend.
